Signer, a Cincinnati attorney and building and loan association executive, was charged in a two-count indictment with attempted income tax evasion and with making and signing a false income tax return, in violation of 26 U.S.C. Â§Â§ 7201 and 7206(1). He entered a plea of not guilty, and upon trial before a jury he was found guilty on both counts. He was sentenced to one year and a day imprisonment only on Count I.
